I believe that it is implied in Season 4 (The Economist) that the food drop is a result of the time dilation effect between the island and the outside world. Daniel Faraday does an experiment that shows an object that enters the island's proximity from the freighter at one time experiences a delay before it actually appears on the island. It seems pretty likely that whoever dropped the Dharma food dropped it in the past and it appeared on the island in the future.
